Naturopathic Consultations

What happens during a naturopathic consultation?
It is at the time of the consultation that the naturopath reveals himself as a health educator. His role is to invite the person accompanied to adopt a healthy lifestyle in accordance with his needs, to reinforce his immune barriers, to drain the humoral overloads, to better manage his emotions and his stress and to find his power of self-healing in all the so-called functional diseases. The exchange is therefore essential.

A consultation always begins with an anamnesis, a very thorough questionnaire, to understand the person's condition and health history. It is a real investigation to determine the sources, the deepest causes of his current malaise by reviewing his family history, his profession, his eating habits, his physical activities, his leisure time as well as each of the physiological sectors, to point out what seems satisfactory or to be improved. The naturopath will for example question the person to establish scales of comfort on the digestive plan, moral, on the quality of the sleep, the libido, the articulations, the transit, the level of stress, the allergies, the functions ORL, urinary or cutaneous...

The naturopath establishes the vitality balance sheet which consists in analyzing and understanding the person's terrain, estimating his or her energy reserves, i.e. his or her vital force, in order to reinforce it if necessary. To do this, the therapist relies on the observation of the person's constitution, then on his or her temperament, i.e. the way in which the person's terrain has evolved since birth, and finally on his or her diathesis, a sort of photo of the person's present state. All these indications highlight the person's available vitality, which is the essential key to adjusting the cures and techniques used.

Finally, the naturopath proposes a lifestyle program in three points:

- Diet.

This is one of the major pillars of naturopathy insofar as the food choices we make have direct or indirect repercussions on our state of health. We should therefore favor foods that are not very refined, of organic origin, without forgetting to chew well to facilitate digestion thanks to the enzymes present in the saliva. It is also necessary to favor a balanced diet with low acidity, giving pride of place to raw green and colored vegetables (preferably at the beginning of the meal for their richness in enzymes capable of optimizing digestion) or ideally sprouted, but also cooked at low temperature, ripe and seasonal fruits, mixtures of whole or semi-whole grains, preferably gluten-free (rice, quinoa... ) and legumes (3/4 cereals and 1/4 legumes) for their richness in vegetable proteins and fibers, seaweeds well supplied with minerals (seaweeds) and detoxifying green principles (fresh water seaweeds) and quality first cold-pressed oils rich in omega 3 (rapeseed, camelina...). On the other hand, it is necessary to limit red meats, dairy products and refined sugars which are too acidifying and pro-inflammatory...

- Physical exercise.

It stimulates the activity of all the emunctories (skin, kidneys, lungs, intestines, liver and gall bladder...) at the same time. It also maintains joint and muscle flexibility, improves venous and lymphatic circulation and maintains good bone mineralization thanks to the micro-impacts on the floor that strengthen the fibers inside the bones. It also favors the oxygenation of the brain which improves its performance (concentration, memory, discernment, strategy, vigilance, method...) and delays its aging. Without forgetting its harmonizing action on the emotional level (pleasure, better self-confidence, anti-depression, tenacity, surpassing oneself...). Finally, physical activity can act on a spiritual level (centering with martial arts, yoga, qi qong and tai chi chuan, feeling of unity with the natural elements while walking or running in the forest, possible meditations in certain endurance sports...).

- Neuropsychic hygiene.

A better management of stress allows us to live our lives better, but above all to remain in good health. It is therefore essential to act on this axis, especially since there is an interaction between the nervous, endocrine and immune systems. Stress leads to an excessive consumption of vitamin B and magnesium, a drop in serotonin (a neuromediator of well-being and sleep) and an increase in cortisol, resulting in a drop in immunity, demineralization, etc. Relaxation, sophrology, meditation, cardiac coherence, behavioral therapies, etc., can provide effective help, depending on the person and their needs.

From massage to drainage
Finally, the naturopath can also use different techniques. To allow him to relax, he can propose a relaxing Californian massage and/or breathing techniques or sophrology if he is more sensitive to visualizations and does not like to be touched... For transit problems, he can suggest hydrology with a rectal shower and to boost circulation, alternating hot and cold baths. Finally, the use of reflex techniques such as foot reflexology, auriculotherapy (stimulation of reflex zones in the ear) or sympathicotherapy (stimulation of reflex zones in the nose) are very effective against pain, sleep disorders, addictions, without forgetting essential oils which are very helpful for detoxifying, energizing, draining, and correcting a condition.
